Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to receive massage while pregnant?
Yes, it is safe to receive massage while pregnant, with limitations. Because we do not suggest massage in your first trimester, as your body is adjusting to all the necessary changes, we simply ask that you bring a doctors note to ensure you are having a normal and healthy pregnancy. If you have a history of miscarriages or other complications, we advise waiting to receive a service until you are through the first 12 weeks. Throughout your pregnancy, expect to receive a massage that has more of a relaxing approach in mind, as deep tissue work is not safe throughout the entire pregnancy. Prenatal massage is meant to ease your mind and body of unnecessary stress and tension as you adjust to the changes that are bound to occur.
Are there any health concerns in which massage is contraindicated(should not be done)?
Yes. Massage should not be done under certain medical conditions, including without limitations:
  • Tissue or swelling which might be malignant
  • Marked degrees of hernia
  • Gastric or duodenal ulcers
  • Acute skin infections (expect psoriasis)
  • Acute inflammation of the bone and/or marrow osteomyelitis
  • Acute inflammatory processes (except bursitis)
  • Known thrombosis (blood clots)
  • Acute disease accompanied by fever
  • Acute inflammation of the veins
*Please consult your health care professional if you have any questions or doubt as to whether a condition you may have is safe for massage.
